Nothingness is destructive. Emptiness is favorable to a spirit of openness and creativity.

Detachment for a “heart that sees” the neediest.

HomélieToday, the Gospel presents Jesus Christ as the Master, who speaks to us about the detachment which we must live by. In the first place, a detachment of our honor and recognition which, every so often, we are looking for: «Beware of (…) being greeted in the marketplace, and occupy the reserved seats in the synagogues and the first places at feasts» (cf. Mk 12:38-39). In this sense, Jesus prevents us from following the bad example of the scribes. In the second place, detachment of material things. Jesus Christ praises the widow while regretting, at the same time, the deceit of the others: «For all of them gave from their plenty, but she gave [the widow] from her poverty and put in everything she had, her very living» (Mk 12:44). He who does not live the detachment of worldly things does live full of his own ego, and is incapable of loving. In such a state of mind there is no “room” for others: neither compassion nor leniency or understanding towards our neighbor.

Nothingness and emptiness – is there a difference? To speak of nothing brings to mind a sense of desolation and darkness. Emptiness on the other hand, isn’t so desperate; something empty can be filled: mu tea cup is empty but may be filled. Although we may describe times of our life interchangeably using nothingness or emptiness, they have different meanings for Christians.

Today’s first reading recounts the story of Elijah and the widow of Zarephath. The context is this: the Jewish people stopped worshipping the true God to follow false gods, along with the high-ups of society exploiting the poor. Muri irya misi,
Umuhanuzi Eliya yafashe inzira, ija i Sarepta. Agishika kw’irembo ry’igisagara, agize atyo abona umugore w’umupfakazi ariko aratoragura udukwi. Eliya aramuhamagara aramubarira ati : « Ntabara urabe ico wonzaniramwo utuzi two kunywa.» Akiriko aragenda kuyazana, aramuhamagara ati: «Urantabara unzanire n’utwo notamira.» Wa mugore amwishura ati: « Ndakurahiye Imana nzima ko ataco mfise co kurya, atari agafu kari ku rushi gasigaye mu gaseke n’uturanguzwa tw’amavuta mu gakarabo. Ivyo dusoma mu gitabu ca mbere c’Abami (17, 17-24)

Umwana wawe yasubiye kuba muzima

Wa mugore abwira Eliya ati : « Dupfa iki ga muntu w’Imana, waje ngaha kwibukiriza ivyaha vyanje n’ukunyicira umwana ? Eliya na we ati : « Mpereza uwo mwana. » Aramumukura ku bibero, amutwara mu buraro bwiwe, aramuryamika ku buriri bwiwe. Hanyuma aratakambira Umukama ati : « Mukama Mana yanje, mbe uyu mupfakazi yanyihereye indaro, nawe umuhora iki ? Umwana wiwe umumwakiye iki ? » Hanyuma yubarara gatatu kuri nya mwana, atakambira Umukama ati : « Mukama Mana yanje ndagusavye, uyu mwana asubire kuba muzima. » Umukama araheza yumvira Eliya, wa mwana asubira guhema, araba muzima. Eliya aramufata amukura muri bwa buraro, amushira nyina, amubwira ati : « Ng’uyu umwana wawe yasubiye kuba muzima. Wa mugore ati : « Ubu rero, ndemeye ko uri umuntu w’Imana, kandi ijambo ry’Imana uvuga ni iry’ukuri. »

Inkuru nziza Pawulo yigishije ni Inkuru nziza y’Umukama

Ncuti zanje,
Ku vyerekeye Inkuru nziza nabigishije, ndabamenyesha ko iyo Nkuru nziza irengeye abantu, kuko nanje ntayihaye canke ntayigishijwe n’umuntu, ariko ari Yezu Kristu yayimpishuriye. Mwarumvise imigenzo nari mfise kera nkiri mw’idini y’Abayuda, ingene nahîga Ekleziya y’Imana nkayitikiza bimwe birenze urugero, mwarumvise kandi ko mu bwoko bwacu narushije benshi mu bo twarukanye gutera imbere mw’idini y’Abayuda, kuko nabarusha ubwira bw’ukurwanira iragi ry’abasokuru. Ariko, Uwanyisobanuriye nkiri mu nda ya mama akanyihamagarira ku buntu bwiwe, aho ashimiye kumenyesha Umwana wiwe ngo ndamurange mu banyamahanga, buno nyene sinagishije inama umubiri n’amaraso, kandi sinaduze i Yeruzalemu kuraba abantanze kuba abatumwa, ariko nagiye muri Arabiya, hanyuma nsubira i Damasi. Maze, imyaka itatu ishize, nduga i Yeruzalemu kwibonanira na Kefasi, tumarana imisi cumi n’itanu ; mu bandi batumwa, nta wundi nabonye, atari Yakobo, mwenewabo n’Umukama.

Umuhanuzi mukuru yaserutse iwacu,

Kristu, ni we nyen’ubuzima

NaimUmusi umwe, Yezu yari aroye mu gisagara citwa Nayini, agendaniwe n’abigishwa biwe be n’ishengero ryinshi. Ngo atere kw’irembo rya nya gisagara, ahwana n’abajanye umupfu ; na we agasangwa yari umwana w’ikinege, kandi nyina yari yarapfakaye. Nya mupfakazi yari aherekejwe n’abantu benshi bo muri kino gisagara. Umukama ngo amubone, amutera imbabazi, amubwira ati : « Ihorere ! ». Araheza yegera inderuzo arayikorako, abari bamuteruye barahagarara. Avuga rero ati : « Wa musore we, ndabigutegetse, vyuka ! » Uno yari yapfuye aca aravyuka aricara, aca atangura kuvuga. Yezu rero amushikiriza nyina wiwe. Bose bagwa mu gahundwe bashemeza Imana, bati : Umuhanuzi mukuru yaserutse iwacu, Imana yaramukije igihugu cayo. » Iyo nkuru ikwira Ubuyuda bwose n’ibihugu bibangikanye.
